Background
I was born and raised in York, PA, the oldest of five children. When my family moved to Atlanta in 1977, I joined them here. I originally lived in Peachtree Corners from 1982 to 1985 in an apartment on Peachtree Corners Circle. I moved back in 1999.
I graduated from York Catholic High School. I earned a BS degree in Psychology at York College of Pennsylvania. I also obtained two graduate degrees from Georgia State University; an MPA – Masters in Professional Accountancy and an MS in Information Systems.
Knowledge
I have served on Peachtree Corners City Council since its inception in April 2012. To better understand the requirements of my position, I participated in the Georgia Municipal Association’s (GMA) training program. I have obtained a Certificate of Achievement which requires 72 hours of training, including at least 36 hours from the required list and the Newly Elected Officials Institute.
I am a graduate of Leadership Gwinnett, Class of 2017. This is a nine-month program focusing on Gwinnet County services issues. It enhances relationships with county officials and with fellow class members.
I also served as a member of the Peachtree Corners Yes Core Committee. My principal role was to write the official UPCCA city information blogs. In that role, I had to research city issues and came to have a deep knowledge of the charter and the intent of the city founders as well as issues facing all cities. I authored blogs countering the opposition positions. This also required extensive research to ensure the information I provided was entirely factual.
Experience
Besides serving on Council for five years, I have a strong business background. I worked for the former C&S National Bank for 13 years. I was Group Controller and Compliance Officer in the Capital Markets Group before moving to Corporate Banking. In that area, I performed Cash Management Studies and Treasury Management Reviews. I left the corporate world to work as an independent technical trainer and software developer. As a developer, I automated and streamlined processes for corporate clients. I have Masters Degrees in both Accounting and Information Systems. I currently work as a developer at Acuity Brands Lighting.
I have served my community, Avocet, since 2004 on several committees, including COPS, Architectural Control Committee, and the Board of Directors. On the Board, I have served in the capacity of President and Treasurer, with the responsibility for a $120,000 annual budget. I oversaw capital projects, including the replacement of our tennis courts.
Integrity
I have continued to make decisions on City Council based on my knowledge of what is best for the city overall. This view is predicated on having a very efficient and effective city government, delivering services tailored specifically for our community. There have been times when I disagreed with the majority of council and either added conditions to a decision or voted against it when necessary.
Summary
I am the candidate with the knowledge, experience and integrity required to successfully continue to serve as a member of the Peachtree Corners City Council.
